Doris Aber Evin was born on November 2, 1920 in Montreal to Zelda Herscovitch and Harris Aber. She grew up in NDG with her brother Bill (Rose), Anne, and Sylvia (Morris Rottenberg). On May 31, 1942 Doris married Harry Evin after a short whirlwind courtship. Their family grew very quickly when, in March of 1943, their twin daughters were born. Donna (Stanley Messer) and then 20 minutes later Dulcie (Gordon Naimer). Two years later their son Richard (Tammy Haboucha) was born. They led a very active life filled with travel, skiing, tennis, biking, family meals, and afternoons in their beloved back garden. They were very involved grandparents to their 9 grandchildren: Lorraine (David Bloom), Gavin (Michelle Stricker) and Karen (Jeremy Eichler), Elana (Shawn Weil), Leora (Albert Mitzner) and Tova Messer, Michael, Mark (Alizah Benchetrit) and Daniel Evin. They were also blessed with Great Grandchildren, Josh, Benji and Rachel Bloom, Nicole, Jack and Drew Naimer, Jonah and Ezra Eichler, and Dalia Mitzner. After Harry passed away in April 2000, Doris continued to play an active role in her family and lived an independant and vibrant life well into her 90's. At the age of 97, she moved to a residence in Cote St Luc, where her health began to slowly decline. But until the very end, Great Grandma Doris enjoyed visits from family and poetry readings and lots of music. Doris passed away surrounded by her whole family at the age of 102. We all felt very blessed to have had our beloved Grandma Doris in our lives for so long.
