Harold Joseph Miller

1931-2020

Harold Miller was born in Toronto in 1931. His parents, Morris and Fanny, had 7 sons and 7 daughters. Harold came along somewhere around the middle of the pack.

Harold met his wife Estelle z”l, of 62 years, when they were teenagers. She was out of his league in the looks department, but his charm made up for that. They married before his 21st birthday, and one year later began a family.

Harold was a good student and would have done well in pursuing a professional career, but in those days, practicalities prevailed, and he entered the working world at a young age. He learned the trade of repairing TVs. In those days, this was physically quite demanding. Most homes had antennas to erect, so my father quickly learned to not fear heights; TVs were large and heavy and would need to be carried out for repair from downtown apartments, many of which had no elevators.

Eventually he transitioned from blue collar to white collar and launched a successful sales career. Harold was an incredible salesperson. He was successful at that because people genuinely liked him. In 1992, he cofounded Merithian Products Corp with his son Larry, where they worked together for 20 years until he retired at age 75.

Harold left a legacy to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of whom he adored. He knew how to make each of them smile. In fact, he had this almost magical ability to brighten anyone’s day and make us all smile. And for that I think he is mostly missed.
